Product Information

General Info - Brass is an alloy made up of Zinc and Copper in ratios of between 2:1 & 3:1 to give a range of varying tones. We select our brass based on a classic yellow gold tone which makes it the perfect colour for jewellery designs and to achieve a lovely tone to our vintage pieces. All our charms & findings are manufactured in the USA, many using vintage tooling created at the turn of the 20th century. Many of the manufacturers are operated today by 3rd & 4th generations of the original tool makers.

The Brass Charm Co. imports direct from manufacturers and embelishes the majority of our charms by hand. To learn more about these processes please read on.

Raw Brass

In it's simplest form we do not alter or add to the raw brass charms. They are unprotected or uncoated so over time they will achieve a lovely natural aged patina. If you do not want your charms to age we suggest washing, drying then coating them with 2 coats of clear spray or a wax sealer like Renaissance Wax or similar.

Shabby Chic Brass

These lovely pieces take 7 processes to create. We use a mix of acrylic paints which are then buffed and each piece receives multiple clear coats on both sides to protect the finish. These piece will not age over time due to the protective clear coat.

All Shabby Chic pieces are processed by hand in our studio in Staffordshire.

Plated Brass

These designs are plated for us in a range of finishes from Antique Gold which is a bright shiny gold, Antique Silver which can be either a matt or shiny silver & Antique Brass, an aged matt darker gold tone. Each piece will clearly state what plated finish has been applied.
